It is the largest glockenspiel in Germany and the fourth-largest in Europe. It was designed by Christian Reithmann,

The scenes are from the marriage of Bavarian Duke Wilhelm V to Renata of Lorraine in 1568 to Renata of Lorraine was a French noblewoman of the House of Lorraine who became a Duchess of Bavaria by her marriage to Duke William V.

Just a little pomp and ceremony involved: The bridal party had the Austrian archduke arriving with 600 oxen and 1,500 horses. On the day of the wedding, Wilhelm V and 3,500 horsemen went to a nearby city to pick up the bride Lorraine. An additional note: It is believed that during the 18th-century farmers in south-western Germany started making cuckoo clocks, this is believed to be the time and the place of the birth of the cuckoo clock.
